Red, Black & Green Elsie Law LogoBefore the State of Oklahoma became part of the Union in 1907, the Western Negro Press Association requested of President Roosevelt that he not admit the state into the Union until Oklahoma agreed not to pass Jim Crow laws. President Roosevelt ignored this request.

Oklahoma was the first state to segregate telephone booths.
