Dr. Barbara Sizemore was the first African American superintendent of a major urban school district. She became the superintendent in Washington D.C. in 1973. Dr. Sizemore crusaded against standardized testing. She stated that the tests were racially bias. She said standardized tests were “the new lynching tool” for the ambitions of African Americans.
