This Is Not A Hoax: Fast Food Restaurant Introduces The Bacon Sundae

Written By: Elsie Law - Jun• 19•12

A few days ago, fast food chain Burger King, introduced the bacon sundae. The bacon sundae is just as its appellation describes it; a combination of: vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, caramel syrup, bacon bits topping, and a strip of bacon. The sundae has been touted as an addition to the franchise’s summer menu.

The Burger King’s website describes the dessert as: “a cool collision of sweet and salty” and states it is “sweet and savory made with cool, creamy and velvety vanilla soft serve, chocolate fudge and smooth caramel, made to order with our new thick hardwood smoked bacon.”

The sundae has the following nutritional stats per serving: 510 calories, 18 grams of fat, 10 grams of saturated fat, 61 grams of sugar, 670 mg of sodium, and 40 mg of cholesterol. The sugar the small-sized sundae contains is equivalent of approximately 15 teaspoons.

Are Americans really going to go for this combination of pork and ice cream? Will this “dessert” gain popularity as a novelty item? Or, is this bacon sundae just a ploy to draw attention to the Burger King brand right before it goes public on the stock market again? Inquiring minds.
